The Multi-Scale Ice Dynamics Lab

How do ice sheets change, from the micro-scale to the macro-scale, and what is the impact of that change?

The Multi-Scale Ice Dynamics Lab at the University of Chicago takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying Earth's ice, with the ultimate goal of trying to improve prediction of ice sheet and glacier change due to human-induced climate change. We integrate concepts from materials science, solid earth geophysics, applied mathematics, and related fields to characterize (1) how glaciers and ice sheets change from the micro-scale physics to the macro-scale behavior and (2) how we can include these physical processes into ice sheet models that ultimately produce projections of sea-level rise.
